Greenland has won another award for its Ram Quarter development in southwest London, this time at the recent British Homes Awards.
The development at the former Young’s brewery site has had a transformative impact on the regeneration of Wandsworth town centre, and was recognised by the British Homes Awards in the presentation of the award for the "Best Mixed-Use Development of the Year" category.
The British Homes Awards honours every aspect of housebuilding from architectural and interior design to innovation and build quality, from one-off houses to major developments. The judging panel comprises industry experts who look for entries that demonstrate originality, innovation in design and delivery, and how a design brief has benefited the community.
The judges commented on Ram Quarter's "positive approach to biodiversity and natural landscape" and said that "The generosity of public realm and community benefits delivered also add to the strengths of this development." The design by EPR Architects has "responded sensitively to the historic nature of the site, and the new contemporary buildings merge seamlessly and integrate well into the setting." Ram Quarter has created "a community with a strong sense of place... an organic public realm." The judges summarised that Ram Quarter has managed "to pull off a difficult brief and create a new urban quarter," and they concluded that the development is "an exemplar mixed-use scheme that has completely transformed the site."
Greenland's focus on creating a diverse and independent-led tenant mix has taken the development from strength to strength, with almost all apartments now sold and an active community of residents established. London independent brewer Sambrook’s has opened a new commercial brewery and heritage centre at Ram Quarter, with pizza served by Crust Bros. Visa and consular services business TLScontact is the site's office anchor, having relocated its London operations to Ram Quarter. Lifestyle and leisure brands Schooner bar, Mai Thai Deli and The Dapper Fox barber have also taken space. Kido school offers early education and childcare opportunities, and MoreYoga provides fitness and healthy living options. Ram Quarter's fine dining restaurant London Stock and coffee shop Story Coffee continue to attract visitors too.
New additions to the site include adventure bar Boom: Battle Bar which launched yesterday, and southwest London's first bowling alley, Strike, which will open next week (26th November). Further openings are planned early in the new year.
