Greenland is delighted to publish the winning entry of its recent Ram Quarter photography competition.
The photography competition was launched to coincide with the tours offered by Ram Quarter as part of this year's Open House festival - an annual celebration of the capital's architecture. Walking tours were led by EPR Architects, the firm which designed Ram Quarter's masterplan. Visitors were welcomed to the development by a representative of Greenland, and were then given a walking tour of the development and an overview of its design and plan. Many visitors chose to end their tour by refreshing themselves with a pint and a pizza in the taproom of the UK's oldest continuously-operating brewery. The taproom is adjacent to Ram Quarter's Heritage Centre, which houses the treasures that Greenland has carefully preserved and which are now available for public viewing at Ram Quarter.
Following the launch of the festival programme, and in the weeks leading up to the tours at Ram Quarter, visitors to the development were encouraged to enter this year's Photography Competition by submitting an original photograph showing the development's design or architecture to striking effect.
The winning entry - selected by EPR Architects and published on our website's News And Insights page - was taken by Haydee Anunacion. The judge at EPR wrote: "The key considerations for me were that this atmospheric image has been carefully composed to juxtapose cleverly the different building typologies and materials within Ram Quarter, contrasting colours and textures very successfully. In its presentation it captures the level of enquiry and interest shown by this year’s visitors who were particularly engaged during the tours." Haydee wrote: "Old meets new at Ram Quarter - weathered brick gable against the sculpted green cladding of the tower behind it, a plane slicing through the sky above. Heritage and contemporary architecture share the same skyline here, textures and eras meeting in a single frame."
Congratulations to Haydee! We hope you'll enjoy your prize - an evening of pizza and beer at our onsite brewery Sambrook's, the brewer in the oldest continually-operating brewery in the UK.
